On 1/12/2019 at 7 pm CST Saturday, Br. Peter Karavas has requested to attend the BBB xjw comfort meeting to “hear” any grievances attendees might have against or for the http://www.friendsifjehovahwitnesses.com site.
I personally haven’t heard any grievances against the site but undoubtly Br. Peter has heard something and would like to listen to them and perhaps discuss.
We will tape this show so those that can’t attend can listen to it at a later date.
So this allows any attending to write down concerns to present if you have any.
Also you may if you like express any concerns on this site and hopefully directly on the fojw site.
Remember there is freedom in Christ to express in any venue you prefer. If you express yourself here the moderator will read it to the group Saturday night.
Please feel free to leave your thoughts on this. Thank you.
The moderator will open up 30 min before time and please do a speed test on your internet upload and call your carrier if they have slowed it down as they often do.

Big Blue Button appears to be working fine for me on my cell phone today. I have to say no on the sound test if I don’t hear my voice and it looks for another means of speaking. Hopefully it works tonight.

  3. jacqueline says:

Marjo, that might be it. Flash seems to be going out of vogue now on some devices may be. But I don’t have a problem if I answer the questions correctly during the echo test. I can’t just say yes I hear my voice if I don’t. I have to say no, then it will find another speaker on my computer.

  4. Marjo says:

Those are blessings from Yahweh 🙂
I think the problem could be in Chrome and adobe flash update. I have problems updating my adobe flash in Chrome. Everything is working fine with Firefox.

  5. Marjo says:

    Hello everyone!
I was planning to be in the meeting last night, but my baby had another thoughts. He decide to wake up 2 am and was little cranky till 4 am. Then I was too tired to join in. I will try to be in the next one 🙂

    • jacqueline says:

Marjo, I remember the days of babies up all night. We had a grand total of six but only four of us were on until after 10pm. We tried out both rooms. The BBB worked for 4 of us perfectly but 2 persons had trouble with sound. The other link worked well also, so we have alternatives.
I was able to carry on a conversation on Facebook messenger at the same time with a young xjw. A nice night. More grandchildren are due here today, I have one now and enjoying this blessing.
A roller coaster but at least for now their parents are letting me see them. Take care .❤

  6. Jacqueline says:

Hi friends, the BBB might have made updates as they do periodically. If you don’t hear your voice say NO then it will look for your speakers and you have to allow. Then go thru the echo test even if you never did it before. Test your speakers as it asks you even if this is new for you. It might be because of update that your steps have changed.
If you have a pad it has a push to talk. disable it to be able to just unmute your speakers.
When I told a few people this they are now able to talk and can hear.
So, remember to answer all questions and follow all steps. Hopefully, this will work for us all.
We have four persons on now and they are all able to talk and listen because they went back out and came back in after going thru the extra steps. Thank you so much.

  7. Greg says:

    Hi Ted.
I don’t know how I missed you message about Go to Meeting. I’m just looking it up now.

  8. Greg says:

    Hi Marjo.
I have no idea what that message could mean. 🙁
Yes, the app works, except that chat isn’t implemented in the app yet. Another 🙁

  9. Marjo says:

I had to downoad the app. Then it worked I think.

  10. Marjo says:

I tried Jitsi but it complains abut incorrect number. I guess it doesnt work in my country.

  11. Greg says:

OK, Ted (and anyone else who might want to connect using a mobile device)
As a possible workaround, I have just tried accessing the WebBrowser version of Jitsi using my android tablet. It works and chat is accessible. The trick is to load the Jitsi link using your browser (Samsung, Firefox and Chrome all worked fine for me. Maybe others will, too?) and after you see the page that says you need the app, then ***INSTEAD*** click the Browser Menu and “Request Desktop Site”. Then Jitsi will load in your Browser instead of the App. Allow the Microphone permissions And Voila!!! Chat is there and it works.
(The Browser Menu is where you would normally tap to open up Bookmarks, Settings, History, Help, Etc. Somewhere in the list you should be able to see “Request Desktop Site” or “Desktop Version” (or something similar) and then you just select the tick box and the page should reload in the browser for you.)

  12. Ted R (Bible Student) says:

Have you looked at Go to Meeting? We use it a lot in insurance.

  13. Greg says:

    Ted,
I stand corrected, and exceedingly disappointed. I just tried out Jitsi using my Android Tablet, and I cannot get the chat box to appear. Apparently, chat isn’t yet implemented on the mobile version. In the forums, there is recent (October/November 2018) talk where individuals are working on implementing it. So maybe soon…
    I was so hopeful, too.
I was hoping and trying to stay away from spyware infested apps and ones that open you up to all kinds of security and privacy nastiness. Especially is this a concern on mobile devices where almost every app is connected to google and/or ad servers that track you, demand you give away your personal information, hog your bandwith, invade your privacy, want to access all your files and contacts, and steal screen space, etc, etc, etc.
I also tried some other open source ideas: I successfully set up an Apache OpenMeetings Server, but it doesn’t have support mobile devices. So I tried Rain (aka Jami), JumpChat, and Rocket.Chat. I considered setting up my own BBB (version 2) server but the need for an FQDN and an https certificate complicate that just a bit.
Everywhere I go, I either bump into scariness, or restrictions, or limitations, or lack of support for things like mobiles.
    It’s SO frustrating!!
About the best option I currently know of is something I already use: Discord. It works on Android, PC, etc.
Has anyone else got any ideas that I might have missed?

  14. Greg says:

    Yes, Ted. You will. Yay!!

On the PC, the Comments are on the left side, but you need to click the icon to show them. But I haven’t tried it on my Tablet yet to see how looks on mobile devices.

  15. Ted R. (Bible Student) says:

Will I still be able to type in my comments?

  16. Greg says:

    Hello Everyone!

In trying to find a solution to the BBB difficulties we’ve been having, I’m wondering if each of you would be willing to give Jitsi a try, and then give some feedback.

As far as I know, You don’t need to install anything. And it works on Windows PC, Linux PC, Android devices, and iOS devices. You just need to use your browser and click this link:

    https://meet.jit.si/ExJW_Comfort_Testimony_Meeting

Or you can even join by phone (in the US): dial +1.512.402.2718 and enter this PIN: 3851178569#

To view EVEN more phone numbers (in various countries like UK, Canada, etc., click this link:
    https://meet.jit.si/static/dialInInfo.html?room=ExJW_Comfort_Testimony_Meeting

The room should be accessible to everyone anytime. Please check in out if you’re able and let us know if you’re comfortable using this to meet on this coming Saturday (Dec. 29)

  17. jacqueline says:

Greg and Dave, the problems we are having is because of the bandwidth. Wired is the best especially when we have lots of people. I will not use my camera as it might interfere.
Here is info for others to understand their internet bandwidth and effects on BBB.:

What are the minimum bandwidth requirements for a userAnchor link for: what are the minimum bandwidth requirements for a user
For viewers (students), we recommend users have (at least) 0.5 Mbits/sec – which is 500 Kbits/sec – upstream bandwidth, and (at least) 1 Mbits/sec download bandwidth. The upstream bandwidth is the amount of bandwidth their computer has available to transmit data to the BigBlueButton server.

These are not hard and fast numbers, as it depends on the activity of the viewer. If the viewer is not broadcasting any webcam, the amount of upstream bandwidth used would be less than 0.5 Mbits/sec.

A good way for users to check their bandwidth is to visit speedtest.net. The results from speedtest.net give the user’s actual bandwidth. This actual number is important because a user may report that their ISP provides them 0.5 Mbits/sec upstream bandwidth; however, speedtest.net may report an actual number that is much lower. The difference may be throttling by the ISP and background activity on their computer (such as background downloads, file sharing clients, etc).

For presenters, we recommend as much upstream bandwidth as possible. For example, if the presenter shares their desktop, then BigBlueButton’s desktop sharing will attempt to publish their desktop updates as quickly as possible to the server.

Is wired connection better than wirelessAnchor link for: is wired connection better than wireless
Yes. A user may have very good experience with wireless internet, but if others hear their audio as broken or choppy, that user can either move closer to the wireless base station, try a different wireless network, or (best) connect directly to a wired connection.

Using public WiFi is not always best. It may be OK for surfing the web, but the latency and packet loss might be insufficient for real-time transmission of audio or video.

  18. Nubby Tope says:

Jacqueline, great to see and hear you tonight! You have an infectious laugh that made me laugh! I love it! Glad you saw me but I don’t know why you couldn’t hear me; we’ll get that sorted somehow. Now we know we’re real!!

    • jacqueline says:

Nubby so glad seeing you. You look as young as my sons!
It is you upload, download and bandwidth. Speed check your internet and also see if your internet provider is giving you your maximum.
Those on cell phones or who have others sharing data might be able to listen but not talk or be heard. If you can get on the BBB is working correctly. And the chat is amazing.
Our cameras used Bandwidth also. It is complicated but I will post a link to help others understand. I call my internet people every month to make sure I get what I paid for.lol. But it was just nice seeing you and you seeing me. I was raking leaves and ran in so you saw the real me.

  19. Nubby Tope says:

    Hi Jacqueline,

Try on Tuesday? Sounds good! I’ve never done anything like this before so it’ll be interesting to see how this goes.

11 pm my time OK for you? Is that 6 pm eastern coast time for you? Just try for a few minutes.

  20. Nubby Tope says:

    Cheers Greg!

I’d love to give BBB a try, that new time will be midnight here in UK so I’ll be able to stay for an hour. So I just follow instructions and click on? Just like Skype? I’m still a thickie where tech is concerned!

    • jacqueline says:

Nubby Tope this is the link for instructions: http://askjacqueline.life/line-up-of-conference-calls-on-bbb/
I think I sent you the chat also.
Last Thursday on our study of Luke 21 and Matt 24 here: http://askjacqueline.life/conference-call-using-just-the-bible-research/.
We chose these chapters alnog with Mark 13 because we were discerning that another Temple had to be rebuilt for Matt 24 to be true. Luke was talking definitely about the temple destruction in 70AD
Matt. 24 couldn’t be harmonized with Luke 21 because the Jews didn’t go off into captivity and scattered and so much more. We were just dumbstruck that we could see this with the help of the Holy Spirit and doubted ourselves because we didn’t consult any books or what studies in the scriptures or watchtower taught. Then I found the altar link (it had been built in 2015) and Stephen found the Temple link. All we could do was realize we are doing the right thing by going straight to the Bible with help from God.
We have had so much discouragement from fojw site administrators because we just want to study the Bible. I have been labeled a “breakaway study group” because I said no I will not worship Charles Taze Russell and fool the ex Jehovah witnesses into thinking they had freedom of thought and liberty.
Feeling the Holy Spirit on our Saturday and Thursday calls has helped us look past the evil disruptions. Hopefully, you can come on with us and speak freely what the Bible and Holy Spirit is revealing to you whether Russell’s 18th-century quotes from others see it that way or not.
You can talk freely and no one listens in anonymously, we are in the open.
If you want to test out the BBB tomorrow (Tuesday) tell us what time and one of us will open the room then to show you how it works. Take Care
